Hot Spring Bath in TAOYA Akiu
Taoya Akiu is, in short, fantastic. Location is 2min walking from the bus stop from/to Sendai, but to get there and from there they offer a free shuttle bus (require reservation, ideally now than one day before). The few attractions in the area are all reachable by walking. The resort is huge but services are distributed well and moving around is efficient. Basically everything is included in the price and offered as part of the staying: there are free drink -including alcoholic beverages- and snacks, you can choose your yukata among the different colours avaliable. There are multiple relaxing areas which are all nice and cozy, and there is even a shop inside. The onsen (baths) are gorgeous as you see in the pics. There are 4, two indoor and two outdoor that are assigned in pair to males and females, switching every day (this is standard for Onsen places) so you can try both even if you only stay one night. Check in and out are quick and staff is polite as always in Japan. Both dinner and breakfast are buffet style with quite a huge selection. The room is amazing, large for Japanese standards (and I mean really large) and beautiful with beds in a japense style section in the middle of the room. Super recommended.

Taoya Aiku is a beautiful hotel. The lounge provide free drinks and snacks through the day free. Breakfast and dinner are buffet style. Very generous spread of Japanese cruisine, small corner of Italian, soft drinks, beer, coffee/tea, wide variety of soda to mix on your own for both breakfast and dinner (of course no beer during breakfast). There are also massage chairs, a beautiful library, table tennis and karaoke room, all free but need to reserve with the front desk. A perfect place to rest and relax without need to venture out. The onsen is big and spacious, has both indoor and outdoor. The room was slightly older but is well kept. We booked a big ryoken room for 6 of us to spend 3 nights together. This place is not within walking distance of train or bus station and definitely need to drive unless you are planning to take their shuttle service. All the staff only speaks Japanese and majority of the guests are local. Nice because more privacy and quiet environment. It is a very nice hotel which emphasise on comfort and style.

Classic onsen hotel, and an excellent chance to soak in the geothermal water at Akiu. Very helpful staff (N.B. not all staff speak English, but Google translate is very helpful.) The buffet dinner had lots of good options (though, again, take your smartphone so you can translate the labels.) Quite good value, when you consider the included meals. I didn't realise there was a shuttle service available from Sendai JR station - it is possible to get to Akiu on a public bus, but it takes a while, and isn't very regular.

We loved everything about our stay. The staff, the facilities, the room, the food, the baths, enjoying yukata life. We have been travelling around Japan for weeks and this place was the first place to feel like a relaxing holiday. We were a little concerned given the cost that we wouldn't find it worth it but we loved it and only wish we could have stayed longer. A very memorable time

The ambient motivates you to relax. The thermal baths are for men and women separated from each other. They change everyday the assigned gender to enjoy both. The food is served as a buffet and is delicious. They serve typical dishes from the region. You enter the place and you don't want to get out.
